About
Founded in 2013 in Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus, University of Kyrenia is a dynamic higher education institution committed to educating individuals who think critically, conduct research, produce knowledge, and uphold ethical and social values within an international academic framework. Building on the long-standing experience of its sister institution, Near East University—particularly its 37-year maritime education heritage—the university was established with a strong academic and infrastructural foundation. Its initial focus on maritime studies quickly expanded into a comprehensive academic structure. Today, University of Kyrenia offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs approved by YÖDAK and YÖK, across faculties including Maritime, Aviation and Space Sciences, Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Law, Economics, and Health Sciences. The university’s maritime programs meet international standards set by the IMO, while its aviation training is conducted through a certified Flight Training Organisation approved by the Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The university campus, located along the Kyrenia coastline, hosts modern educational facilities, advanced laboratories, a fully equipped university hospital, and a dental hospital, supporting both academic excellence and research activities. With a strong emphasis on research and innovation, the university actively participates in international projects and supports academic publications. It is also home to Cyprus’s only research vessel, enhancing its capabilities in marine sciences. Recognized in international rankings such as the AD Scientific Index, University of Kyrenia continues to strengthen its academic presence globally. Through continuous investment in education, research, and infrastructure, it remains committed to contributing to regional and international development.
