The Faculty of Medicine was the first nucleus of Mansoura University, established in 1962 by Presidential Decree No. 1647 as a branch of the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University. Teaching began the same year. Later, in 1972, the University of East Delta was established by Law No. 49, and in 1973 it was renamed Mansoura University. The Faculty offers education in both basic medical sciences and clinical sciences across 23 departments. It grants the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBCh) degree through two undergraduate programs: the traditional program and the Mansoura–Manchester Program. Undergraduate study lasts six years, divided into two phases: The pre-clinical phase (three years of academic study) The clinical phase (three years of practical study) This is followed by a one-year internship (Excellence Year). In the 2013–2014 academic year, the faculty celebrated the graduation of the second cohort of the Mansoura–Manchester program. Beyond undergraduate studies, the Faculty awards master’s degrees in 35 specialties and doctoral degrees in 37 specialties. The Faculty is also linked to eight specialized medical centers, including: The Urology and Nephrology Center The Gastrointestinal Surgery and Liver Transplant Center The Emergency Hospital The Ophthalmology Center The Specialized Internal Medicine Hospital The University Children’s Hospital The Oncology Center The Burns and Plastic Surgery Center Additionally, the Mansoura University Hospital for Critical Care and Recovery supports the faculty’s mission, with seven floors covering 650 m² and three specialized units (Fertility Unit, Infection Control Unit, and the Liver Transplant Unit).
